Transportation tips for your first Summer Break in Cancún. Part 1

Hello! This article tells you the basics about spending your summer break in Cancun, having fun, saving money and traveling wisely. Every saved penny is another buck for clubbing at Dady O!

There are many ways to move around Cancun this summer break, from the most economic, smart ones to fancy yet expensive ways to get right where you want to go. When you first get to the airport, you will be bombarded with information, cab operators, private transportation executives, even with billboards from the competing nightclubs. Ignore them, you have to come to Dady O. Really. ;D.

Anyway, here are our tips of how to move in Cancun, and we are not talking about dance moves in our dance floor. Because DadyO loves you, that’s why.

Airport/Downtown Cancun Bus + Downtown/Hotel Zone Bus Combo.

Overall Price: $7.5 USD per passenger.

Pros: Cheap, fast, clean and safe. May leave you directly at the entrance of Dady O, if you want. :D

Cons: Bus drivers drive fast and wildly, which gets some people nervous. Not the best option if you are carrying more than one luggage piece per person. This only works for hotels within the Hotel Zone in Cancún. The bus may not leave you right at the door of your hotel, so its not an option if you have problems walking long distances or tolerating the hot Cancun weather.

The cheapest way to get to the Cancun downtown is to buy an ADO brand bus ticket right at the airport. There is a special sale point in a booth right after the baggage claim, the ADO logo is red, so there is no miss. Ask for a “Cancun Centro” ticket, which should cost you around $6-7 dollars per passenger. That bus will let you store your luggage beneath and have a comfortable commute to the bus station. Once you get to the bus station, don’t feel confused by the streams of people coming in and out of it, it’s a very busy building! Get out of the terminal, and walk to your right. You can ask a guard or an ADO employee where you can take a “Ruta 1” (route 1) bus, and they will indicate you to walk out of the building and walk to the right, where you will find Tulum Avenue. From there you will be able to stop a bus with the label “R-1” on the windshield. Do it just the same way you call a cab, extending your arm, and they will stop. Some of them have AC which is great under the hot Cancun summer weather. There is no place for a lot of luggage in these buses, so if you are carrying a lot of baggage this may not be the best choice for you. The R1 will run a few blocks through the Tulum Avenue, turn right at the Coba avenue, and then take the Boulevard Kukulkan, the only way in an out of the Hotel Zone. The only difficulty you may meet here is knowing when to get down of the bus, so we suggest checking a map or having your GPS with you and see which is the closest stop to your hotel.
